Also known as the sand fox, it lives in the Tibetan Plateau, from Ladhak and Nepal, to Tibet, C.W. China, and Buthan. Their habitat is plains, alpine meadows, and steppes. Their head body length is 49-65 cm, and their tail length is 22-29 cm. They weigh from 3 to 4.6 kilograms. They have gray sides, tail, and upper legs, with short ears and a white tip on the tail. They also have a coat ranging in color from tan to rufous. They mostly eat the plateau  pika, but also eat other rodents, birds, and carrion. Mating is in December, and their gestation period is 50-60 days long. when pups are 8-10 months old they will leave and soon search for their own mates and territory.
