Gerbils live in African deserts and savannas, Asian deserts and steppes, from Turkey to China, and of course, in peoples homes. There are 95 different species of gerbils, and their fur color is pale yellow, light brown, or gray. Their diet is mostly seeds, roots, and other plants parts, but some species eat insects, snails, and other small animals. Their size can range from 2.4-7.9 inches, from head-body length, 2.8-8.7 for tail length, and their weight ranges from 0.3-6.7 ounces, depending on which species they are. Their gestation period is from 21-28 days long, and in the wild they usually live from 1-2 years long.
