This type of mongoose lives in Africa in forests, dry grassland, and bush land. They eat insects, arachnids, lizards, small birds, snakes, rodents, and sometimes berries. They are diurnal (awake in the day, sleep at night) and live in groups of 2-30 animals. They live in shelters made of abandoned termite mounds, hollow trees, and similar places. The leader of groups are usually the dominant female, and she is responsible for 4/5 of the pups raised by the group. Common dwarf mongooses breed about 2-3 times a year, from October to May.This animal’s gestation period lasts 53 days, After which about 4-6 pups are born. Their length is from 7-11 inches, and they weigh from 7-13 ounces. They live to be around 8 years old. Some of their predators are snakes, birds of prey, and slender mongoose.
